Michelle Sullivan

Investment Manager - Biotechnology

Michelle Sullivan joined Investment New Zealand in April 2003 to focus on attracting investment to New Zealand's biotechnology sector.

She has worked in investment in London and New York, covering a range of different sectors including specialised manufacturing and wood processing. Michelle joined the Investment New Zealand food and beverage team as investment manager in August 2004 and was appointed to the biotechnology team in October 2005. She is experienced in assisting companies with their New Zealand investment strategies.

Background and expertise

Michelle has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in biochemistry from the University of Otago, and a PhD in biochemistry from Massey University, New Zealand.

She has previously worked as an environmental consultant with Waste Not Limited, and also as a programme manager for the Health Research Council of New Zealand.

The Health Research Council project was to develop a NZ$1.2m-plus air quality research fund between the Council, Ministry for the Environment, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Health, Environment Canterbury and Auckland Regional Council.

Other cross-sectoral research initiatives Michelle has managed include the immunisation, problem gambling, Maori health and occupational health and safety projects under the 'partnership programme' umbrella.
